Making Stepfamilies Work - a six session course for couples offered by SAVI for those considering forming, or already in a stepfamily. Come and meet people like yourselves, share experiences and learn some strategies on how to make your stepfamily work better. Stepfamilies face unique challenges for all family members, which are not always recognised. They need different answers to family problems. Our courses have been run successfully for the past fifteen years and have given participants a heightened sense of understanding and increased confidence. The course covers central issues faced by stepfamilies, including past histories, disciplining children, loyalty, territory and financial issues. An emphasis is placed on strengthening the couple relationship.
Topics include:
- Influences from the past
- Living with someone else's children
- The discipline challenge
- New roles
- Strengthening the couple relationship
