History
Stepfamily Association of Victoria (SAVI) commenced as a self-help support group in 1981 and remained a volunteer network for 16 years. In 1997 after receiving some funding, an office was established. Key people to its inception include its co-founder Margaret Howden who then further co-developed the organisation with Irene Gerrard.
SAVI became a respected, professionally resourced organisation providing information, support and education for stepfamilies and training for professionals, and contributed its staff, resources and infrastructure to Stepfamilies Australia.
Both Margaret and Irene still hold key roles within the organisation bringing with them their strong passion and extensive personal and professional stepfamily knowledge and experience.
Stepfamily Association of South Australia formed in 1997 and has developed an impressive track record of online delivery of stepfamily information, education and support forums and counselling with national and international reach, through its website Stepfamily Zone www.stepfamilyzone.com.au.
Stepfamily Associations in Western Australia and New South Wales also offer information and support, and a new Association in Tasmania has also recently commenced. See links on our Home page.
